Loomis takes its name from one of the town’s pioneers, James Loomis. At one time, James Loomis was the whole town—saloon keeper, railroad agent, express agent, and postmaster. In the early part of the 20th century, Loomis was the second largest fruit-shipping station in Placer County. Established in 1850 and incorporated in 1984, Loomis retains its rural character and charm with a historic downtown, spacious residential lots, and woodlands with natural streams and rolling hillsides. Although small, Loomis is not without its amenities. Restaurants, shopping, and outdoor recreation are within easy reach. Take a peaceful stroll along Taylor Road, the historic downtown area of Loomis, lined with charming vintage architecture, small businesses, lush greenery, and historic homes.
